Lab…Uh…Rinths brought together six artists to consider the labyrinth as a physical structure, a way of thinking and a metaphor for creative life. Moving through a labyrinth means proceeding without a complete view: each turn is uncertain, while the larger pattern only becomes visible from outside or above.
The exhibition explored this tension between disorientation and understanding. Labyrinths can be constructed or found in nature—in the folds of the brain, the balancing structures of the inner ear and the paths through which memory, intuition and artistic processes unfold.
MITOΣ
Christina Darras presented MITOΣ (2024), a 103-metre thread-like work made from recycled calico strips, embroidered with red wool yarn and block printed. Its title invokes the Greek word for thread—and the mythic thread that makes it possible to enter a labyrinth and find the way out again.
Participating artists were Sandra Bridie, Melanie Cobham, Christina Darras, Spencer Harrison, Aaron Perkins and Daniel J. Pilkington, with sound by Connor Ross. The exhibition was curated by Christina Darras and Daniel J. Pilkington with support from the VCA50 Creative Development Grant.
